Mission Statement:

The true enjoyment and appreciation of cinema may only result from an understanding of films. In particular, with today's rampant growth of productions, cinematic art demands to be analyzed. Film after film, Cinephiles will provide movie lovers with the unreeling of an exciting experience that will further their appreciation of cinema.

Cinephiles focuses on the objective study of movies; one which must rely on the filmic medium and on the material contained within the film. While numerous movie reviews are helpful sources for those seeking recommendations, they are typically based upon the recommenders' subjective preferences. Cinephiles, however, holds a different philosophy: the true critic must support his/her critique with the filmic material. Feelings and emotions which produce evaluations of films often say more about the viewer, about the circumstances under which he/she viewed the movie, or even about the society which produces such a viewer or such a reaction, than about the film. At best, the critic should be able to identify the reactions the movie is trying to evoke in the viewer and how it manages or fails to do so.
